| For years I have heard other grandmothers tell me, “You should write a book to share what you know …” I thought the blog would fulfill that need but so many of you said my suggestions and input should be in book form.
I started writing — then stopped — then started again. I was getting nowhere. One day last year while I was visiting the grandkids, I was telling Fiona about a weird dream I had the night before, a dream about some picnic. Fiona was sitting at the kitchen counter, coloring and making some cards as I started to tell her the dream. I got a phone call and after I got off the phone, she handed me this bookmark she had made.

Of course I finished telling Fiona about the dream, and took the bookmark home. (Grandmas save everything!) I put it on a display board in my office. Soon this book mark became a message for another purpose: this little sign was telling me to “Finish the Dream” by finishing my book.
I did! I’m launching my Miles Away Grandparenting book on Amazon and I’m so excited. I’m happy to take readers through my life as a grandma with her darlings 2,000 miles away. I talk about what works and what doesn’t, all the while nurturing connections across the miles.
From reading a picture book to a toddler on FaceTime … to how to be a terrific house guest … I’ve included ideas, suggestions, personal stories, video chat fun, cautionary tales, and more. It’s all so grandparents can stay happily connected to those precious grandkids — and their parents. The book has material from this blog but there’s new information and stories, too.
I would so appreciate you helping make Miles Away Grandparenting a success. To order my paperback book or ebook, click here or on the button below. Also, if you read my book, you can tell Amazon shoppers how many stars (1 to 5) it deserves and/or write a review.
Some readers have told me they are buying a copy for a friend who lives far away from her grandchildren. And this was a surprise: some young women are saying that because of all the relationship suggestions, they are buying Miles Away Grandparenting to give to their child’s grandparents.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
And now that the book is done, look for new articles more frequently on this blog I’ve been a bit negligent lately!
